Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 14:
Michael Wilson, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson had three catches for 36 yards on seven targets in Sunday's crushing 20-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13. The 25-year-old came falling back to earth on Sunday after having two outerworldly performances in his previous two games.
Wilson took a statistical back seat to Marvin Harrison Jr. in his first game back after his appendectomy surgery. Harrison almost doubled up Wilson in catches and receiving yards on Sunday. However, quarterback Jacoby Brissett did keep his eyes out for Wilson throughout the game and forced a couple of targets Wilson's direction in key situations.
Brissett and Wilson have a connection worth keeping an eye on, even with Harrison back in the fold. Wilson should remain a flex option in a pass-heavy offense despite heading into a tough Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin took a step backward in the offense on a night when quarterback Bo Nix attempted 45 passes in their 27-26 overtime win against the Washington Commanders. Franklin averaged nine targets per game in the five games before the bye week, but regressed to having just three in Week 13, catching two of them for 21 yards and no touchdowns.
Perhaps the resurgence of tight end Evan Engram (nine targets) stifled Franklin's production for what could've been a one-off dud, but this will be something to watch as the team is coming off their bye week.
Franklin had five catches for 40 yards and a touchdown while facing the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10, so he will look to replicate that at least for Week 14.
Jakobi Meyers, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers continued his recent success with another solid performance during Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.
It was unclear if Meyers' role in the offense could be reduced with Brian Thomas Jr. back in the mix this weekend. Clearly not, Meyers hauled in all six of his targets for 90 yards and scored a touchdown in the win.
Over the last three games, Meyers has finished with 50 receiving yards or more and scored two touchdowns. He'll remain fantasy relevant for next week's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs had an excellent stretch of fantasy viability from Week 4 to Week 9, with three games among the top-25 wide receivers. From Week 10 to now, Doubs has disappointed fantasy managers with lackluster production.
He's averaged just 6.8 fantasy points per game in the four-game stretch starting in Week 10, and is averaging three receptions and 25 yards per game. Doubs has taken a backseat to not just the running game, but also Christian Watson, who has exceeded Doubs' production in recent weeks.
With the impending return of Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden into the Packers' wide receiver rotation, Doubs' production could be a bit more sporadic. Against the Chicago Bears in Week 14, Doubs is still a low-end flex option, but one that's much harder to trust than in the middle of the season.
John Metchie III, WR, New York Jets
New York Jets wide receiver John Metchie III may have been a disappointment for fantasy in Week 13, but he's still trending positively with the team's offensive attack finally gaining some traction in the campaign.
The 25-year-old continued his heavy utilization in New York's 27-24 home win over the Atlanta Falcons, nabbing 4-of-8 passes for 19 yards. It isn't what managers expected, particularly after Metchie III strung together two double-digit fantasy-point outings.
Even with the down game, though, the usage was there, and veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been a decent boost for the Jets' offense, making the former Houston Texan a decent prospective waiver claim. Teammate Garrett Wilson (knee) may return in two weeks, but Metchie III looks to be carving out a solid role with his new team. He'll get the Dolphins at home in Week 14.
Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave (back) is listed as a limited practice participant on Thursday's injury report after being held out of practice on Wednesday. The 25-year-old followed a similar practice progression due to the ongoing back issue last week and was ultimately able to play in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins, recording four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
Assuming Olave can avoid any setbacks, he could be trending towards playing through his back troubles again in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Olave has been targeted a whopping 115 times this season across 12 games, hauling in 73 catches for 781 yards and five touchdowns. As long as he's active, Olave profiles as a must-start fantasy wide receiver.
