Should I pickup Kenneth Gainwell or Bhayshul Tuten as fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 7 of 2025? Read our fantasy football waiver wire outlooks.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten are both serving in backup RB roles to this point in the 2025 NFL season.
While both have had games of double-digit PPR fantasy points, they've mostly been irrelevant from a fantasy perspective this season. But an NFL year is a marathon, not a sprint, and things can change quickly.
Gainwell scored 31.4 PPR fantasy points in Week 4, and Tuten racked up 15.4 in Week 2, so they have the potential to be good scorers. But should you grab them for your teams off waivers ahead of Week 7?

Kenneth Gainwell Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
Gainwell's massive performance in Week 4 was followed by a bye week and a 9.1-point outing in Week 6. Unfortunately, with the return of Steelers lead running back Jaylen Warren, Gainwell returned to a backup role, playing ahead of rookie back Kaleb Johnson.
Gainwell took six carries for 22 yards and caught six passes for 14 yards. The catch numbers boosted his totals, but he was held to just 36 total yards of offense. It's hard to see him being start-worthy moving forward, and he's clearly not taken over the starting job.
Nice finish in space here from #Steelers OL Spencer Anderson.
They talked all week about what a good athlete he was. Showed it in space as the lead blocker on the swing pass to Kenneth Gainwell. Good finish against #Browns LB Devin Bush. pic.twitter.com/7mp9ALykBi

But he's been targeted 22 times so far in five games, which is actually a pretty impressive rate for a running back. He appears to be doing fine in his passing downs role, and though that doesn't mean much in anything aside from very deep PPR leagues, it means he's not totally useless for fantasy purposes.
As a handcuff to Warren, as well, he has some value. He handled the vast majority of the work in the game that Warren missed. And it seems that he has even more upside as the starter with Warren out than Warren has normally, because the workload is more concentrated.
Bhayshul Tuten Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
Tuten's rookie season is mostly off to a slow start, but there are reasons for optimism. While his workload in the past few weeks has been nonexistent, he's been nursing a shoulder injury since Week 2. He gets cleared from the injury report before the games, but often, players are playing through serious ailments with no injury designation.
As an example, we saw San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ribs, ankle) play in Week 6 and record very little production. It was then revealed after the game that he was playing through five (yes, five) broken ribs, a serious shoulder issue, and high and low ankle sprains.
Jauan Jennings on playing with the following injuries:
“You know playing with injuries. It’s part of it. You got high and low ankle sprains. You got shoulders at 20%. Five broken ribs. It is what it is. You keep playing and nobody cares. Keep playing. That’s what we do.”

This is a constant in the NFL. Players play even if they're in severe pain. It's for the benefit of the team, even if they don't get that many reps. The fact that Tuten was limited in practices for three straight weeks makes me think he wasn't fully healthy.
He was an early fourth-round pick by the Jaguars. They traded away their RB2, Tank Bigsby, to the Philadelphia Eagles very early in the season. That was likely a vote of confidence in Tuten, who's obscenely athletic. As he heals, he could provide immediate upside.

And over the past two weeks, Jaguars lead running back Travis Etienne Jr. has played much more poorly. His efficiency has absolutely fallen off a cliff -- he ranked near the top of the league in rush yards, yards per carry, and explosive play rate in Weeks 1-4, but ranks near or at the bottom in all those areas in the past two weeks.
Tuten should be rostered in 100 percent of leagues.
Should I Pickup Kenneth Gainwell or Bhayshul Tuten For Fantasy Football?
Gainwell should be added in very deep leagues, like those with 14 or more teams, or as a direct handcuff if you have Warren on your roster. Tuten, on the other hand, is a priority add and a screaming buy-low target right now. He has league-winning potential on a team with excellent run-blocking and great run schemes.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has helped completely transform Jacksonville's offensive line into one of the best groups in the league. If Etienne doesn't bounce back, we could see him soft-benched at some point, especially if the Jaguars go on a losing skid.
