Should I drop Marvin Mims Jr. for fantasy football Week 2? Is Marvin Mims Jr. a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr., after an offseason filled with hype of him potentially settling in as the Broncos clear WR2, had a massively disappointing day in Week 1, catching just three of his four targets for a paltry 12 receiving yards.
Mims was essentially a non-factor in Denver's passing game. To make matters worse, he muffed a punt, turning the ball back over to the opposing team, and had to be bailed out by his defense. Mims' potential to have a big role in the offense seems to be fading.
That said, Denver had a potent passing offense last season, led by quarterback Bo Nix, and still is under the tutelage of renowned offensive-minded head coach Sean Payton. So should you drop Mims and search elsewhere for WRs, or is he worth hanging on to? Let's dive in!

Should I Drop Marvin Mims Jr. in Fantasy Football?
Mims' Week 1 was entirely forgettable. He wasn't much of a factor. For many fantasy managers, this is confusing, because he ended his 2024 season with scores of 19.9, 6.0, 9.5, 30.2, and 22.1 PPR fantasy points, averaging over 17.5 points per game in those final five contests.
But a late-season stretch of big games doesn't always indicate a true breakout. Mims made a few huge plays during that span, but failed to consistently be a part of the passing offense over the course of the season. It shouldn't have been overlooked that he never had a snap share over 50 percent and was a non-factor for the first 10 weeks.

If his breakout were real, you'd have expected him to get more than four targets in a game where Nix threw 40 passes. Instead, he earned just 10 percent of those targets, tying for fourth on the team with Engram, while Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, and Tyler Badie all out-targeted him.
Mims appears to now be third in the team's WR pecking order, and potentially fourth in pass-catching order, after Engram. If Nix continues to check down as much as he did, Mims could even continue ceding targets to the team's running backs. Nix had a high check down rate in college, so that's not great news, either.
Outside of best ball leagues, where Mims obviously still has some potential due to his penchant for big plays in 2024, it's safe to drop Mims. In Year 3, he needed to start out much better to be worth holding. He could still have some spike weeks, but they'll be incredibly difficult to predict, if they even come.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
There are a few receivers who played very well in Week 1 and appear to have established good roles in their offenses. The first is Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen. He's 33 years old, but he was targeted 10 times in the Chargers' first game of the season, hauling in seven passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
For now, he could be locked into the WR2 role there, which is valuable. New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte also surprised, catching six of his eight targets for 103 receiving yards. Boutte played double the snaps of fellow WR Stefon Diggs. As Diggs' knee gets healthier, though, expect more production from him.

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Hollywood Brown should also be a priority pickup. Xavier Worthy (shoulder) could miss some time due to his shoulder injury, and the Chiefs are severely depleted of pass-catching weapons. As a result, Brown garnered 16 targets in Week 1, scoring 19.9 PPR fantasy points.
