Nick Chubb start 'em, sit 'em fantasy football picks for Week 1 of 2025. Should you start or sit Nick Chubb for fantasy football lineups in Week 1?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: High-floor RB2/RB3
ANALYSIS: The Houston Texans signed veteran Nick Chubb to a one-year deal earlier in the offseason to slot in as a reliable backup option to workhorse Joe Mixon. However, Mixon has been dealing with a lingering foot/ankle injury and was recently placed on the reserve list, which will keep him sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the season.
As a result, the 29-year-old appears to be poised to open the season as Houston's lead running back.
Last season, Chubb was recovering from a severe knee injury and was clearly limited as a result. Chubb made his season debut in Week 7 and appeared in the next eight games before being shut down before Week 16. Through eight games in 2024, Chubb averaged just 41.5 rushing yards per game and scored only four touchdowns.
He posted the lowest efficiency mark of his career, with a 3.3 YPC. This mark is significantly lower than his 2023 mark of 6.1 YPC.
While Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks could find a role in the backfield, especially if Chubb's inefficiency continues to linger in 2024, for the time being, the longtime Cleveland Browns running back is expected to lead the backfield.
Facing the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, Chubb carries high-floor RB3 value in all standard and half-PPR formats. He is projected to be a riskier play in PPR leagues given his lower receiving upside.
I asked Texans HC DeMeco Ryans about his faith in RB Nick Chubb as an every down back:
"He looks better and better each week. Especially when we got the pads on, he has the explosion and speed to make plays in this league. I am very impressed with Chubb." pic.twitter.com/rJ3mNlXPks
