Freddy Peralta Tosses Six Shutout Innings, Picks Up 16th Win
Freddy Peralta tossed six shutout innings on Saturday, allowing just one hit and one walk while racking up eight strikeouts on the way to earning his 16th win of the year in a 7-2 victory over the Blue Jays. That makes four consecutive starts in which the right-hander has not allowed a single run, and he owns a 0.32 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 20.6 K-BB% in five August starts. While it's a long shot, the 2x All-Star now has the third-best odds to win the NL Cy Young Award, with a 16-5 record, 2.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 168 strikeouts in 153 2/3 innings pitched. The 29-year-old will take the mound against the NL East-leading Phillies next week at home in his next start.
