Will Jauan Jennings play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2025? Will Jauan Jennings be healthy enough to play in Week 1? Andy breaks down the latest Jauan Jennings injury news for fantasy football.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has a clear path to seeing ample targets to open the 2025 regular season. In the offseason, the 49ers traded Deebo Samuel Sr. to the Commanders, and veteran wideout Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is slated to miss at least the first month of the season.
However, Jennings has suffered an injury himself and may be in danger of joining Aiyuk on the sidelines.

Will Jennings Play This Season?
On July 27, Nick Wagoner of ESPN reported that Jennings left the team's practice due to a calf injury. Although the injury was not initially perceived as serious, it proved to be significant enough to keep him out of practice for most of August.

In August, Jennings continued to be limited by this injury and was unable to take the field during the entire month. Despite missing most of the conclusion of training camp and the preseason, Fantasy managers should not expect Jennings to miss the entire regular season.
While the 28-year-old could be in danger of missing the opening week and potentially the first handful of games, he is not expected to miss a majority of the 2025 regular season.
Will Jauan Jennings Play In Week 1?
While his long-term outlook still remains quite clear, fantasy managers should pay close attention to his status leading up to the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Following their preseason contest against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, August 23, head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that he expected Jennings to be ready for Week 1 but noted that "You never know with a calf."

"I expect him to be back, he should be back from it. But you never know with a calf."— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) August 24, 2025
While this may not look overly promising, Jennings does have under two weeks to rest until the season opener. If Jennings remains out of practice leading up to this game, he could be in serious danger of missing the season opener.
On Monday, Jennings was still unable to practice, which only increases the potential that he does not suit up in the opening week of the regular season.

Jauan Jennings 2025 Fantasy Outlook
Before his injury, Jennings expressed interest in seeking a new contract. While he expressed that he was unhappy with the team, Jennings never made a formal trade request, according to his head coach. However, after the injury, Jennings was unable to display much disdain with the coaching staff.
Suppose Jennings were to sit out early in the season. In that case, fantasy managers should expect quarterback Brock Purdy to focus much of the passing attack around All-Pro tight end George Kittle and second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall. In addition, running back Christian McCaffrey should also see a healthy dose of targets.
However, with Aiyuk not expected to play for some time, Jennings could be poised to lead the pass-catching room if he can turn the corner before the season opener. Last season, the 28-year-old enjoyed a career season, tallying 975 yards on 66 receptions. He found the back of the end zone an impressive six times.
He enjoyed a breakout game in Week 3 when he caught 11 passes for 175 yards and three scores. Given his strong connection with Purdy, Jennings could be an intriguing value pick at ADP if his price continues to drop due to his injury concerns.

Even if he misses time, he remains a high-end WR3 worth considering, as he should lead the passing offense for most of the campaign when healthy, considering Pearsall's lack of experience and Aiyuk's extensive recovery process.
