Who Should I Draft for Fantasy Football? Kaleb Johnson, Cam Skattebo, RJ Harvey Outlooks (2025)

Kaleb Johnson - College Football Rankings, NCAA CFB DFS Lineup Picks - NFL Draft

Who should I draft for fantasy football in 2025? Fantasy football outlooks for Kaleb Johnson, Cam Skattebo, RJ Harvey and our expert draft advice.

The running back group from the 2025 NFL Draft class was considered one of the deepest in years. From top to bottom, there were talented running backs drafted in every round. There were even undrafted free agent tailbacks that were productive and were the subject of plenty of hype leading up to the draft.

From that group, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Kaleb Johnson, the New York Giants took Cam Skattebo, and the Denver Broncos selected RJ Harvey. Each of these players was selected inside the first four rounds of the draft, with Harvey being taken in the second round, well ahead of the others.

But draft capital doesn't determine how a player's career will go. Instead, it's worth analyzing as much data as possible, including advanced statistics and rushing efficiency, and diving into the film. I've done that for all three of these players, so let's break down fantasy outlooks for each and recommend which you should draft in fantasy football!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Kaleb Johnson Fantasy Football Outlook

I've been staunch in my negative evaluation of Johnson. I wrote an article many months before the draft, calling him a bust in the making. I pointed out several key deficiencies in his game. First and foremost, he's a poor athlete. His 10-yard split was tied for the slowest of all running backs at the 2025 NFL Combine.

He doesn't have awful speed once he gets going. It just takes a while. This might force him to start plays at least five yards behind the quarterback to build up the speed he needs to actually get down the field, which could limit the playbook. But his athletic limitations don't stop there.

There's already been a downturn in his ADP. News out of camp has not been positive. Neither have his preseason performances. I made several threads on X showing film of his issues, and they were laid bare. He struggles to break tackle attempts most of the time and is easily tripped.

Even when he can shrug off tacklers, they're often able to slow his momentum enough that he can't pick up much extra yardage. Owing purely to his size, he can often carry them for an extra yard or two, but it's better to just dodge them and pick up a lot more yards after the juke. Speaking of jukes, Johnson really sucks at making them.

He put up big numbers at Iowa, and there are plenty of examples of him picking up big gains. However, watching the film and giving credit where credit is due is important. Football is a team game. Praising a running back for "elite vision" when the real heroes of the play were the offensive linemen blocking doesn't make much sense.

Johnson's game in college was pausing behind the offensive line if he didn't see a hole, weirdly chopping his feet without moving much, then running through the gaping holes his OL opened for him. That kind of space isn't present in the NFL to the degree it was for him at Iowa.

The Hawkeyes had the best run-blocking offensive line in the Power 4 conferences last season. The Steelers OL is no Eagles unit. I see no reason to draft Johnson. He's not good.

Cam Skattebo Fantasy Football Outlook

Skattebo, while putting up excellent elusiveness metrics in college and eclipsing 2,300 yards from scrimmage in his final season in college, has major questions surrounding his athletic ability. While he runs with good power and was a good tackle-breaker in college in his senior season, he just doesn't have much juice.

His 4.65 hand-timed Pro Day 40-yard dash is a screaming, flashing warning signal if a lack of speed is a red flag for running backs, and it is. I have a hard time drafting him in any leagues, as it's hard to see him taking significant snaps away from a far superior athlete.

Skattebo's talent is undeniable. He has good contact balance and can shrug off hits well. That doesn't mean he has to be good in the NFL. There will always be a clear and obvious ceiling to his production. RBs simply have to be better athletes to succeed in the pros than they do to succeed in college.

Defenses in college football have rosters filled with players who often never sniff an NFL contract or a draft selection. The step up in quality of play, strength of speed and players, and the quickness of the windows in which plays can be made is stark.

Because of this, many players with dominant college careers go on to do basically nothing at the next level. I'm not saying Skattebo will do nothing. Perhaps he'd have a better chance of getting a more significant role if Tracy weren't there and he were only competing with backup Devin Singletary.

It's not like his other testing numbers were bad. But slower running backs on poor offenses with poor offensive lines are players I'd just rather avoid in fantasy. And it's hard to predict him being relevant if Tracy doesn't get hurt.

RJ Harvey Fantasy Football Outlook

Harvey might have to wait a bit to become the workhorse back his draft capital suggests he can become. He's 24 years old, yet despite that, the Broncos invested a second-round pick in him, showcasing their belief that he can be a dominant offensive player for years to come.

He's an explosive and elusive athlete with legitimate pass-catching upside. He recorded the highest speed of any running back within the first 10 yards of the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Combine. He put up monster numbers three years in a row in college football.

Hell, I even called him a league-winner back in February. I was enamored with his skill set at a time when most of the fantasy community completely ignored him in favor of far inferior backs. Even after three huge seasons, he was ranked outside the top 15 NFL running back prospects by many fantasy analysts.

Rookies often take time to develop in their first seasons, though. They have to learn the playbook, get used to the speed of NFL defenses, learn their pass-protection assignments, and hone their skills to succeed at the next level. They get a lot thrown at them to start off.

Denver also signed J.K. Dobbins in June of this year. Harvey's biggest weakness is his struggle with pass-protection, and Dobbins can help with that, but Harvey also tends to bounce runs outside when he shouldn't. That can be disruptive to an offense's game plan.

Still, there's so much upside in a Sean Payton offense. I think Harvey has the potential to be a league-winner down the stretch, and I fully expect it to happen, but the first few weeks of play might not be inspiring. Just remember that the NFL season is a marathon, not a sprint, and don't panic.

Who Should I Draft in Fantasy Football?

Harvey is priced about a million rounds before Johnson and Skattebo, but I'll still recommend Harvey here. Johnson and Skattebo are overall poor athletes heading to poor offenses. I didn't even mention how awful it is to have a player coached by offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who's with the Steelers this year.

The Giants' offensive situation isn't much better. But Harvey is the far better athlete, the far more talented player, in the better offense, and selected with the higher draft capital. There's still plenty of resistance to Harvey's upside arguments, but that's what happens when a player doesn't go to a Big 10 or SEC school. Don't worry.
