Shelby Miller to Undergo MRI on Forearm
Shelby Miller (forearm) will undergo an MRI on his ailing right forearm, manager Torey Lovullo announced. Miller hit the 15-day injured list with a forearm strain on Monday (retroactive to Sunday). Lovullo said his concern over the injury is "not low, something right in the middle," according to Jesse Friedman of PHNX Sports. Forearm strains often lead to Tommy John surgery, a procedure Miller underwent in 2017. A long-term absence for Miller would be a devastating shot to an Arizona bullpen that has already lost fellow high-leverage relievers A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez to season-ending elbow surgeries. With those two out of the picture, Miller had been serving as Arizona's closer before going on the IL. The 34-year-old has pitched to a 1.98 ERA with 40 strikeouts, 11 walks, and 10 saves over 36 1/3 innings. Kevin Ginkel got the save in Miller's place in a win over the San Diego Padres on Monday.
