Spencer Schwellenbach Transferred to 60-Day IL
Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) has been transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL, according to the team. The move was made to open a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Jesse Chavez. The announcement comes as no surprise, as Schwellenbach has been diagnosed with a fracture in his pitching elbow and will not resume throwing until the fracture heals. Until that point, there will not be a firm timetable for his return, but this injury is now guaranteed to keep him out until late this season at the earliest. It's a rough blow for Atlanta, as Schwellenbach was in the midst of an excellent season. In 110 2/3 IP (17 starts), he was 7-4 with a 3.09 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 108 strikeouts.
