Max Scherzer Could Rejoin Blue Jays Next Week
Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a second rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. If that goes well, the three-time Cy Young winner could rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation next week. Scherzer, who signed with the Jays in the offseason, made a three-inning season debut March 30 and has been on the shelf since. The Jays placed him on the 15-day IL with right thumb inflammation and later transferred him to the 60-day version. Scherzer looked good in his first Triple-A rehab start last Friday, when he tossed 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball with four hits allowed and two strikeouts. He threw 56 pitches in that outing and figures to surpass that total Wednesday.
