With injuries beginning to pile up in the major leagues, several pitching prospects are on the brink of receiving the call. This week, we saw Cade Horton of the Chicago Cubs get the call to the big leagues.

We will check in on familiar names on this list and highlight a budding star in the Milwaukee system who is poised for the big leagues.

Bubba Chandler, Pittsburgh Pirates

Currently At Triple-A

Even though Bubba Chandler is coming off his worst outing of the campaign at Triple-A Indianapolis, he remains a top stash in all formats. In this outing, the right-hander allowed a season-high five hits and three runs against Triple-A Columbus.

However, over his first 25 1/3 innings of the campaign, the No. 14-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com has posted a stellar 1.42 ERA with a 0.67 WHIP. Across this stint, Chandler struck out 36 batters and allowed seven free passes.

Last summer at Triple-A, Chandler logged 39 1/3 innings and posted a strong 1.83 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP.

Given his steady progression at Triple-A, Chandler is poised to make a significant impact in the majors when he gets the call. With Carmen Mlodzinski holding a hefty 6.16 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP across his first 30 2/3 innings of work, Chandler's MLB debut could be just days away.

Andrew Painter, Philadelphia Phillies

Currently At Triple-A

After dealing with numerous injuries throughout his young career, the top pitching prospect is quickly approaching his MLB debut. After beginning the season at Low-A, Painter was recently called up to make his Triple-A debut.

During his first start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the No. 7-ranked prospect in the sport according to MLB Pipeline tossed three one-hit innings against Worcester. In this start, he struck out five batters and allowed three walks. Earlier in the season, the right-hander held a 3.97 ERA with an impressive 0.97 WHIP across 11 1/3 IP. During this stint, he posted a near-perfect 12:1 K:BB.

While the right-hander is still slowly building up his workload after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2023, his one stop away from the majors makes him an excellent stash option. Fantasy managers should continue to pay close attention to his progression.

Once Painter can log five innings of work, the 22-year-old could be given the green light to join the Phillies. When he does get the call, he will carry high-end strikeout upside and will likely be a must-start option in all standard formats.

Zebby Matthews, Minnesota Twins

Currently At Triple-A

After allowing seven hits and two runs in his start on May 4, Zebby Matthews enjoyed a strong bounce-back outing on May 10. When facing Triple-A Buffalo, the right-hander allowed just one run (unearned) across five 1/3 IP of work. During this start, Matthews allowed five hits and struck out four batters.

Through his first 32 2/3 IP of work, the Western Carolina product has posted an impressive 1.93 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Across this stint, Matthews has struck out 38 batters and served up just nine free passes.

Last summer, Matthews made his MLB debut and posted a high 6.69 ERA with a 1.65 WHIP across 37 2/3 IP of work.

Matthews has flashed solid upside in the minor leagues and is well-positioned to take the next step in his development during his next stint in the big leagues. Across 97 IP in the minor leagues during the 2024 campaign, Matthews logged 97 innings of work to the tune of a 2.60 ERA with an impressive 0.87 WHIP.

In his most recent outing, the No. 5 starter in Minnesota, Simeon Woods Richardson, threw just 61 pitches. If Woods Richardson struggles to find consistency, expect the Twins to turn to their budding ace at St. Paul.

Jacob Misiorowski, Milwaukee Brewers

Currently at Triple-A

After allowing six runs and serving up 12 walks over his first 18 2/3 IP of work this season, Jacob Misiorowski appeared to be several months away from his big league debut. However, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Brewers system has completely flipped the script and is on the verge of making his MLB debut.

Over his last 23 2/3 IP of work (four starts), Misiorowski has posted a near-perfect 0.38 ERA with a 0.72 WHIP. During this stint, he has allowed just six free passes and struck out 33 batters. In his most recent start on May 9, Misiorowski struck out a season-high 11 batters in their matchup against Triple-A Norfolk.

While the Brewers are expected to welcome back Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (hamstring) from the injured list in the coming weeks, given Misiorowski's impressive improvements, he could force Milwaukee's hand. With his increasing strikeout upside and, more importantly, much-improved control, the Crowder College product is a strong stash option entering Week 7.

Brandon Sproat, New York Mets

Currently At Triple-A

Brandon Sproat was a repeat member of this list through most of April, but hit a skid, which caused him to drop to the bottom section. However, the Florida product has begun to turn the corner and is back on track to make an early-season MLB debut.

Since allowing six runs and six hits during his start April 24 against Triple-A Worcester, Sproat has gone on to log nine 1/3 IP (two starts) to the tune of a strong 2.89 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP. During this stint, Sproat has struck out nine batters and served up three walks.

This is also a great sign for the No. 44-ranked prospect in the sport, as he struggled during his first taste of Triple-A action last summer. During his first 28 2/3 IP at Triple-A, Sporat posted a hefty 7.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP. In this stint, he struck out just 21 batters and allowed 11 walks.

However, earlier that summer, Sproat had a strong 2.05 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in 87 2/3 IP at High-A and Double-A.

Given his steady progress, Sproat should be in the mix to make his MLB debut in the first half of the regular season.
