ANALYSIS: St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Adam Kloffenstein was recently optioned back to Triple-A Memphis after making his major league debut on June 20. However, the young right-hander has been performing quite well this summer and should rejoin the major leagues very soon.
The 23-year-old made a significant impact in his one major league appearance, retiring three consecutive batters and earning his first major league hold. The fact that the Cardinals trusted him in a crucial spot in the game, despite being optioned back to the minors shortly after, is a clear indication of his potential and what role he could have.

In the minors, Kloffenstein has operated as a starter and posted a 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 29:68 BB:K ratio in 77 frames this season. However, he has begun to find his footing in Triple-A, holding a 1.93 ERA through June compared to the 6.15 ERA and 3.03 he posted in April and May.
The former third-round pick is worth adding in NL-only formats or 15-team leagues once he returns to the majors, as he should pitch in a set-up role and could even earn a handful of save opportunities during the second half of the season.
