Max Meyer is a fantasy baseball waiver wire stash for Week 8 (2024). Target Max Meyer as a top prospect free-agent waiver wire pickup for fantasy baseball.
BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues
CALL-UP ETA: Late June - Early July
ANALYSIS: Max Meyer is having a strange start to his 2024 season. He was set to start the year at Triple-A Jacksonville as he was coming off Tommy John surgery last year. But Miami experienced several injuries to members of their starting rotation in camp that forced them into activating Meyer in late March.
Meyer made three starts for the Marlins in early April and pitched effectively, racking up 14 strikeouts across 17 innings and going 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA.

His final start against the Braves was his most impressive as he allowed just one run on six hits over six innings while striking out seven. The decision to send Meyer back down to Triple-A had nothing to do with his performance, but rather it was never part of Miami's original plan to have him pitch at the major league level that early in the season.
This season is already slipping away from Miami as they have one of the worst records in baseball. They've already lost their top pitching prospect, Eury Perez, for the season and Tommy John surgery and are without former Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara, too. The organization is going to handle the former first-round pick Meyer "with kid gloves" this season and we shouldn't expect to see him back up at the major league level until possibly this summer - barring more injuries to their current rotation.
With Braxton Garrett back in the rotation, Meyer is likely to continue to work his way back slowly at Jacksonville. For what it's worth, he has not had the same success at the minor league level (9.24 ERA, 1.97 WHIP) that he did in the majors this year, but is still getting strikeouts (16 in 14 IP).
Meyer is an elite talent who should get another chance to flash his stuff in Miami at some point, but he's only worth stashing at this point if you have the room and be prepared to wait another month (or even two) before you get to reap the rewards.
