Normally, an eighth-place qualifying effort would be cause for celebration, but not for Chase Elliott. The Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver wanted the pole. However, the No. 9 car did not have the closing speed on the oval portion Saturday at Charlotte. Elliott won the 2019 and 2020 editions of this race in dominating fashion. Last year, he even led 30 laps before problems surfaced dropping him to 20th. In 2021, it was restart chaos which kept him from victory. Elliott does expect to get faster as the race goes on so he is up to the task for Sunday.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
