Brayan Bello Could Start On Wednesday
Boston Red Sox skipper Alex Cora said that pitching prospect Brayan Bello is an option to start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Bello is the team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he might be making his MLB debut this week. The 23-year-old right-hander has rocketed up the farm system this year, first going 4-2 with a 1.60 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 42 strikeouts and 12 walks in 33 2/3 innings over six starts for Double-A Portland. In nine outings (eight starts) for Triple-A Worcester, he's gone 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 72 K's and 21 walks in 51 1/3 innings. Bello's fastball has improved and now sits in the mid- to upper-90s, and he generates plenty of weak contact and swings and misses with three quality pitches.
