Erik Jones qualified well at 14th for Sunday's Ruoff Mortgage 500. His practice run at times left a little to be desired. That is troubling for the race itself. Last week, Jones finished 31st after qualifying 23rd. Historically the Petty GMS Motorsports car has not looked the greatest on this Phoenix track. Maybe, the progressive banking helps a bit but it may not either if there are more longer runs. Speed loop data suggests that Jones fades off.
