Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Devin Neal, RB, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints running back Devin Neal could be in line for a significant role moving forward with Kendre Miller (knee) out for the season.
Neal has just three rushes for 10 yards on the season and has only been active for three of the Saints' seven games so far. The rookie is now set to serve as the RB2 behind veteran Alvin Kamara, who praised Neal as "one of the smartest rookies that I've been around."
The sixth-round pick out of Kansas was a workhorse in college, rushing for over 1,200 yards in each of his final two seasons and showing his receiving ability with 49 catches over that span. He's worth an add off the waiver wire in 12-team leagues to stash as a handcuff.
Calvin Austin III, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III (shoulder) has missed each of his team's last two games due to a shoulder injury. However, he's been able to log two full practices so far this week and appears to be trending towards returning to the field in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers.
In four games before getting injured, Austin III recorded 10 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Upon his return to the lineup, Austin III should slot in as Pittsburgh's WR2 alongside DK Metcalf. Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been productive this season, recording 1,270 passing yards and 14 touchdowns across six games.
If Rodgers has another big game this week against Green Bay, Austin III could be one of the beneficiaries. In Week 8, Austin III profiles as a low-end flex option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.
Jeremy McNichols,
Emanuel Wilson, RB, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson was not impactful for fantasy in Week 7 despite racking up a season-high in backfield snap share (34%). Wilson was expected to see an elevated workload while teammate Josh Jacobs (calf) dealt with an injury and illness.
While the 26-year-old was out there quite a bit to spell Jacobs, it only amounted to seven touches (six carries) and 15 total yards of output. Wilson is clearly the team's preferred second option ahead of Chris Brooks, although it hasn't amounted to enough value for fantasy managers to feel comfortable starting him with Jacobs active.
For now, he's exclusively on the handcuff radar. However, that could change with the impending return of backfield mate MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring).
Isaiah Bond, WR, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Isaiah Bond was not targeted in a 31-6 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. Part of Bond's disappointing outing can be attributed to a tough weather day in Cleveland, as it was rainy and windy at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday.
That being said, Bond has taken a step back since his three-catch, 58-yard performance against the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. Overall, Bond has caught 11 passes for 123 yards and added a nine-yard rush in seven games for the Browns. He will look to take it up a notch in a Week 8 road matchup against the New England Patriots.
The Patriots are allowing the 11th-most fantasy points per game to receivers this season, so Bond is staring down a decent matchup this weekend.
Samaje Perine, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals running back Samaje Perine recorded a season-high seven carries in his team's Week 7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The veteran back has been eating into the workload of Bengals RB1 Chase Brown in recent weeks, as Perine has logged at least 28 offensive snaps in three straight games for Cincinnati. Perine's upside remains limited, as he's recorded just 123 yards from scrimmage on 28 touches across seven games so far this season.
The Bengals get a favorable matchup in Week 8 against the New York Jets, which helps Perine's fantasy outlook. Still, expectations for what Perine's upside should remain limited. He's currently ranked as RB45 by RotoBaller in half-PPR scoring heading into Week 8.
