Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton struggled in Monday's 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The rookie finished with eight carries for 24 yards and caught one pass for one yard. He ran hard, but the Raiders' defense shut down the run all night.
His snap count decreased from 80% to 62%, and with Najee Harris becoming more involved, this could be a crucial week for the rookie. Although the Denver Broncos' defense just allowed 165 rushing yards to Jonathan Taylor, they still maintain a strong front.
Even though the Chargers have relied more on the passing game early in the season, Hampton needs to make the most of this starting opportunity, or he might end up sharing more playing time in the future. Fantasy managers should consider Hampton a low-end RB2 for this week.
James Conner, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner saw his snap share shrink a bit more in Week 2 from 65% to 55%. A two-yard rushing touchdown salvaged his week as he finished as the RB24 in half-PPR formats, but he could only muster 34 yards on 11 carries.
The Panthers are ranked 26th against the run through two weeks, which doesn't provide anyone any confidence when their Week 3 opponent is ranked 13th. On top of that, this is the San Francisco 49ers' home opener, so they should come out with some added motivation.
With the combination of a tough defense and Trey Benson getting most of the passing work, Conner projects to be around a mid-level RB2 this week.
Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott lit up the Giants for 361 yards in Week 2, rewarding fantasy managers who rolled him out with confidence. If that was an easy call, this week's matchup against the Bears should have you practically drooling. Chicago's pass defense has been downright charitable, giving up 234 yards and 3.5 passing touchdowns per game.
Some of that is injury-related, but let's be real--the Dennis Allen scheme has offered about as much resistance as a screen door in a hurricane. Last week's mollywhopping came courtesy of a determined Lions squad, and now a top-five Dallas offense averaging 30.5 points per game comes to town ready to keep the scoreboard humming.
Even with rain in the forecast, Prescott is a set-and-forget QB1. Just give the wind report a glance on Sunday morning, then sit back and enjoy the fireworks.
Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle) will not suit up in Week 3 when the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. Jennings is unable to practice all week due to the ankle injury.
Managers should continue to monitor his status as he may not be able to play in Week 4, depending the severity of his injury. In Week 2, Jennings enjoyed a productive showing, catching five of his 10 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. In Week 1, Jennings caught only two of his five targets for 16 yards.
With Jennings sitting out, managers should expect Ricky Pearsall to operate as the team's lead pass catcher, while Kendrick Bourne should move up to the No. 2 role. However, most of the workload should go through running back Christian McCaffrey, who carries high-end RB1 upside in this contest.
George Pickens, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens reminded everyone he's very much alive in Week 2, cracking the top-15 wideout ranks and flashing the chemistry he's building with new quarterback Dak Prescott.
Nine targets against the Giants underline a growing trust that should translate into steady fantasy value. Now the Cowboys head to a rainy Chicago, but a little drizzle won't dampen the outlook. The Bears have surrendered a league-high 3.5 passing touchdowns per game, and Dennis Allen's defense has been about as sturdy as a paper umbrella in a wind tunnel.
Even better, Pickens has already seen four red-zone targets this young season after scoring there last year. If that trend continues, fantasy managers will be grinning from ear to ear--and maybe humming a victory tune as Pickens hits pay dirt again.
