Fantasy Football Draft Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider drafting in 2025:
Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers drafted rookie running back Omarion Hampton with the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hampton was seen as one of the top rushers available in the NFL Draft, and there were murmurs that some teams had him neck and neck with Ashton Jeanty for RB1 of the class.
With head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman deploying a run-heavy offense, Los Angeles is a fantastic landing spot for the rookie. The Chargers did sign former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal this offseason. He should open the season as the starter and may present a roadblock toward immediate production for Hampton. However, over the offseason, Harris suffered an eye injury during a fireworks incident and was not given many opportunities to practice with the first-team during training camp.
While Harris did not live up to the hype as a first-round pick, he is not as bad a player as some think. However, Hampton is a much better player, and Harris will not stand in the way of him taking over this backfield. An RB1 finish might be a tough ask, but given Harris's absence in camp, Hampton could be poised to open the season as the team's starter. He makes for a fine RB2 target with upside in the third round of drafts.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
While there was plenty of hype around new Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan in the pre-draft process, he has many flaws on tape that he needs to work on. Although Panthers quarterback Bryce Young played much better down the stretch in 2025, he still didn't put up big numbers. McMillan figures to get solid volume in Year 1, but Young's "breakout" might not be all that.
McMillan could be in for a rough Year 1 if Young doesn't start elevating his numbers soon. The Panthers drafted Xavier Legette in Round 1 last season, and WR Jalen Coker has played impressively for an undrafted free agent. Additionally, slot WR Adam Thielen isn't going anywhere, and McMillan's lack of speed hurts against athletic outside cornerbacks.
Young could easily regress to his start-of-2024 form, in which Tet's first season could be quite underwhelming. Carolina's passing offense probably isn't worth investing in for fantasy football, and if McMillan finishes outside the top three rookies in fantasy scoring, some analysts wouldn't be surprised. Exercise caution, and it's probably not worth reaching for him in the middle rounds when there are more established wide receivers at this cost.
Colston Loveland, TE, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland (shoulder) was drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, giving him elite draft capital. Despite his lack of college production, he had suspect QB play last season, so his statistics were misleading. He's an elite route-runner for a tight end and is 6-foot-6, so he has an elite catch radius.
The 21-year-old is still recovering from a shoulder injury he played through in 2024 that he had surgery to address in the offseason. Loveland being thought of so highly by new Bears head coach Ben Johnson says a lot. While the team already has wide receivers DJ Moore and Rome Odunze, and drafted wideout Luther Burden III in the second round of the 2025 draft, Loveland has already taken over the TE1 job as he has run with the starter all throughout training camp and the preseason.
Still, it's a crowded pass-catcher room, making it hard to project Loveland's volume. His ADP in redraft leagues is very low, so it shouldn't be hard to draft him in the later rounds. He's immensely talented and will be in the hands of an enormously talented offensive mind in Johnson. So, Loveland has a ton of upside for being relatively affordable. He's absolutely worth drafting and should finish as a top-8 TE this season.
Kaleb Johnson, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
After letting long-time starter Najee Harris walk in free agency, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Kaleb Johnson in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson enjoyed a fantastic junior season at the University of Iowa, where he ran for 1,537 rushing yards and scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He also graded out well in several advanced metrics. Among 156 collegiate rushers with 100+ attempts, Johnson finished 24th in PFF rushing grade, 13th in PFF elusive rating, and 10th in missed tackles forced.
It is worth noting that Johnson was most effective on zone-blocking rushing plays. There was some concern regarding his NFL future because of this. Luckily, he landed in an ideal situation as the Steelers ran the second-most zone-blocking runs in the NFL last year per Fantasy Points Data Suite. Pittsburgh did bring back restricted free agent Jaylen Warren on a one-year deal. He should remain involved on offense and could hurt Johnson's upside.
However, with an improved offensive line, an ideal rushing scheme, a run-heavy offense, and Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, Johnson should deliver a fine rookie season for fantasy gamers. While Warren has been given the starting nod throughout the preseason, managers should expect Johnson to see his workload increased as the season progresses. With a current NFFC ADP of 73.93 overall, he makes for a fine target as an RB3 or flex play.
Jayden Higgins, WR, Houston Texans
Rookie Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins is stepping into a golden opportunity. Higgins was drafted with the No. 2 pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With wide receivers Tank Dell (knee) and Stefon Diggs dealing with injury and departing in free agency, respectively, the Texans had a massive void to fill opposite No. 1 option Nico Collins. Like Collins, Higgins is a 6-foot-4 athletic freak.
He ran a 4.47 40-yard dash and provides the Texans with a combination of a deep threat and red zone target. Higgins was relatively productive over the last couple of seasons in the NCAA. In 2024, he recorded 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns on 87 receptions. He is a volume king with serious touchdown upside. The Texans' wide receiver room is crowded, but Higgins is clearly the second-most talented among the bunch.
Additionally, new acquisitions Jaylin Noel and Christian Kirk are slot players and should not compete with Higgins for playing time. As such, Higgins could be in a clear starting role in Week 1. Having a player like Collins on the other side of the field will open lanes for Higgins at every level. This is a player who could easily finish as a WR2 this season. Considering that he is currently being drafted outside of the top 50 at the position and RotoBaller has him ranked as WR53, he could be an immense steal in fantasy drafts, as he should be, at minimum, a flex option throughout the season.
