Vegas Odds for the Day

NHL DFS Goalies

Jonathan Quick- DK $7.2K || FD $

Opponent - Vegas Golden Knights

What better way to start off the NHL season than getting the Battle of Knights and Kings! Instead of going with the obvious choice at hand in net tonight – Andrei Vasilevskiy – we will side with the Quick and the Kings playing on the road. The veteran did not please many last season, residing in the bottom of the league for goals against. However, he was the 9th best goalie in the league for Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 – 0.398 –, which is saying a lot. The Kings’ defense was nothing to write home about last season with many of the players making debuts or being moved around constantly due to injuries. Now we are starting off fresh with familiar faces on each pairing and a healthy Jonathan Quick. The Golden Knights have much to prove walking into their third season in the league and look for Quick to produce a statement game on Opening Night.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Vasilevskiy (DK $7.8K || FD $8.3K), Shesterkin (DK $6.9K || FD $8.7K)

NHL DFS Centers

Quiton Byfield-DK $2.6K || FD $3.6K

Opponent - Vegas Golden Knights

Byfield by no means had a great rookie season, albeit rarely seeing the top-six. The rookie center had 5 goals, 5 assists, 40 shots and 11 blocked shots in 42 games. Now he will start as the bottom-six anchor, centering wingers Alex Iafallo and Gabriel Villardi. Iafallo brings veteran experience to what is a rather youthful Kings team and Villardi brings center/winger experience to help Byfield out. This is a physical and speed line that the Golden Knights’ third-line will struggle to contain. Do not be surprised if Byfield gets on the scoresheet night one.

Brayden Point- DK $5.7K || FD $6.8K

Opponent - New York Rangers

After the immense drop in form for Point at the end of last season after recovering from an injury, John Cooper is not looking to mess around with Point’s confidence in the early going, setting him up for success. The center will have Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov on his wings, making this line the heavy-carrying punch the Lightning have always relied on. Last season, the trio collectively put together 116 goals, 168 assists, 732 shots and 97 blocked shots. Be mindful that Stamkos is considered a center still as well.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Eichel (DK $6.9K || FD $7.6K), Trocheck (DK $5.1K || FD $5.6K)

NHL DFS Wings

Phil Kessel- DK $4.6K || FD $4.8K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

Who is ready for the Hot Dog King’s comeback? Phil Kessel has not been with an average-at-best offense since his days in Pittsburgh and now he gets a potential career resurgence with the Golden Knights. To emphasize the skill gap with his Coyote teammates from last season, in the four years that he played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he scored: 26-33-59, 23-47-70, 34-58-92 and 27-55-82. In the three years he played with the Arizona Coyotes, he scored: 14-24-38, 20-23-43 and 8-44-52. That is a massive gap in production and one that he will make up with the Knights who sat in the top-half of the league in goals for last season.

Kevin Fiala- DK $6K || FD $7K

Opponent - Vegas Golden Knights

This matchup is likely to have multiple goals and Fiala will be at the center of the action. Fiala has been known for his gritty style of play with a quick shoot and fast skates since his days in Nashville. After four rather successful seasons with the Minnesota Wild – don’t look at 18-19 season –, Fiala finds himself next to the Assist King himself, Anze Kopitar – 51 assists last season –. Kopitar throughout his career has been known to look for a pass before shooting the puck and Fiala is the perfect winger for him. Fiala will utilize Kopitar’s ability to make space, finding himself in perfect areas to crack one-timers and tap-ins. Fiala had 33 goals, 55 assists, 277 shots and 22 blocked shots through 88 appearances last season.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Smith (DK $4.8K || FD $4.4K), Kravtsov (DK $3.4K || FD $5.3K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Alex Pietrangelo- DK $5.3 || FD $6.1K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

Pietrangelo comes back for another season with the Golden Knights and he will continue to carry the blue line as well. The veteran defenseman is one of the best two-way defenders in the league due to his consistency in providing in all areas of the ice. In 80 appearances last season he scored 13 goals, assisted 31 assists, took 227 shots and blocked 164 shots. He will be relied on once again to provide offensive support from the blue line and at this salary, he is well worth it.

Jacob Trouba- DK $5.4K || FD $5.7K

Opponent - Tampa Bay Lightning

Trouba is a player of consistent controversy thanks to his hard-nosed style of play and not being afraid to get dirty in tight areas of the ice. Trouba now gets a big role this season as a veteran leader on the blue line but also quarterbacking the Kids Power Play, where he will have Alexis Lafreniere, Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko and Vitali Kravtsov. Trouba is another physical two-way defenseman that offers production in all areas of the game and through 101 games last season – including playoffs –, he had 12 goals, 32 assists, 259 shots and 229 blocked shots. Those are solid peripherals and don’t be surprised if he blocks a fair amount of shots against the powerhouse Tampa Bay Lightning.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hedman (DK $6.1K || FD $7.5K), Doughty (DK $5K || FD $5.7K)
