Marcus Sasser Fantasy Basketball Outlook
Detroit Pistons guard Marcus Sasser, the No. 25 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of the University of Houston, has gotten off to a strong start to his NBA career. Through nine games, Sasser is averaging 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.9 threes per game.
Those numbers have jumped even more recently. In the past three games, Sasser has averaged 25.5 minutes per contest off the Pistons bench with averages of 16.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.0 steals, and 3.0 threes per contest.
The rookie point guard has already become an important part of Detroit's second unit. He's providing a spark for a Pistons team that has struggled, with Detroit losing all but two games so far this season.
Is Marcus Sasser A Good Fantasy Basketball Pickup?
Marcus Sasser has seen a jump in his rostered percentage in fantasy basketball leagues over the last few days, including an 18% increase in the past day. Clearly, fantasy managers are intrigued by Marcus Sasser and the recent production he's provided.
We tend to agree that Sasser is worth adding in most leagues. The Pistons need scoring off the bench and he's been providing that. Of course, he's a rookie, so there's likely to be some hiccups along the way. Don't expect Sasser to consistently be a 20-point-per-game scorer.
Still, the upside is evident. He should average double figures in scoring and provide fantasy managers with a nice boost in assists, steals, and threes. He's done a really good job avoiding turnovers so far, but it's hard to trust rookies to keep their turnover numbers as low as Sasser has.
