2 days agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott scored a touchdown in a Week 3 win over the New York Giants. "Zeke" ran the ball 15 times, gaining 73 yards and scoring on the ground. He also caught his only target for an additional two yards. The Cowboys relied on their running game quite a bit in this one, giving Elliott 15 carries and his backfield mate Tony Pollard 13. Pollard was once again the clearly better back, gaining 105 yards to Elliott's 73 despite two fewer carries. Still, it was Elliott who found the end zone at the end of the day. The two backs will continue to cancel out each other's upside, but both come in as RB2/3 options with solid floors.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com
7 days agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will look to make an impact in Week 3 fantasy lineups when Dallas takes on the New York Giants. "Zeke" has been decent this season, but nothing close to what he once was when he was routinely one of the first running backs picked in all fantasy formats. In Week 2, Elliott ran 15 times for 53 scoreless yards. He looks better than he did in an injury-marred 2021, but Tony Pollard's presence seems to be looming larger each week. Elliott is a high-end RB3 with some touchdown upside in Week 3 lineups.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
1 week agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott ran the ball 15 times in a Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, gaining 53 yards. He was targeted twice in the passing game, catching one pass that was blown up in the backfield for a four yard loss. Elliott and Tony Pollard split backfield duties, but "Zeke" remained the 1A, out-touching Pollard 16-to-13. Both backs will be RB2/3 options when the Cowboys face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 3.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com
2 weeks agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott had a decent game in Week 1 but could see his numbers dip in Week 2. Playing without Dak Prescott has always made "Zeke" slump a bit, and that could be true again as Cooper Rush will get the start under center. The Cowboys could lean on Elliott a little more since their passing game might struggle to get going, but with a struggling offensive line and little reason for the Bengals defense not to stack the box against the run, Elliott is shaping up as an RB3 with a decent floor but not a ton of upside.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
2 weeks agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott looked spry and powerful in Week 1, but that didn't amount to much production in what was a rough performance by the Cowboys as a whole. Elliott ran the ball 10 times, gaining 52 yards, and was targeted twice, catching one pass for a three yard loss. The good news is that he did look much better than he did for most of the 2021 season, but with quarterback Dak Prescott (hand) expected to miss up to two months, the Cowboys offense might not have too many positive game scripts which could lead to fewer touches for "Zeke". He's shaping up to be more of an RB2/3 until Dak returns.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com
3 weeks agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott should get off to a decent start in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Bucs. The days of Elliott being an unquestioned top-tier fantasy running back are likely over, but he should still be able to put up solid runs as the 1A in the Cowboys backfield alongside Tony Pollard. Elliott's explosiveness just wasn't there last season, but he was playing on a partially torn PCL since Week 4, so the hope is that he will get some of that burst back despite the almost 2,000 NFL touches he's amassed in his career so far. He should be looked at as a mid-range RB2 with some touchdown upside to start the year.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
1 month agoThe Athletic's Bob Sturm expects the 2022 season to be running back Ezekiel Elliott's last with the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott has lacked explosiveness in recent seasons and his rushing yards per game have fallen every year of his career. His yards per game receiving have also dropped every year since 2018, and he's unlikely to suddenly improve in those areas in 2022. His salary cap number next year isn't guaranteed and will be about $17 million. The Cowboys said they are fully committed to the 27-year-old this year, but fantasy managers probably aren't expecting much despite the fact that he rushed for 1,000 yards in 2021 for the fourth time in six seasons. Tony Pollard, who looked much more explosive last year, should continue to steal valuable touches away from Zeke, making Elliott a clear RB2 instead of an RB1 at this point.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Bob Sturm
2 months agoDallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Saturday that running back Ezekiel Elliott "has to be the focus" in the run game this year. "He has to be the focal point" based on his work in the run game and pass game, Jones went on to say. "There is room for (Tony) Pollard while Zeke is in there." Elliott battled through a knee injury last year and Pollard was much more explosive and effective, but the Cowboys will continue to lean on Elliott. The 27-year-old had his fourth 1,000-yard season in 2021 and had 12 total touchdowns, but even if he remains the focal point, Pollard will get his touches, too. Zeke is no longer a slam-dunk RB1 in fantasy, but he should be a solid RB2 target in drafts this fall.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
2 months agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott isn't worried about his contract or future with the organization. "I think it is a big season, but I think you can't look too far down the road," Elliott said, "I think if I handle my business every day, then I'll be in a pretty good situation at the end of the season." The 27-year-old is set to make 12.4 million this year, fully guaranteed. The veteran has had some disappointing seasons during his career. But the former Buckeye may be extra motivated to produce with no more guaranteed cash remaining on his deal beyond the 2022-23 campaign. However, if Elliott doesn't deliver, Tony Pollard may receive more opportunities out of the backfield. Even worse, he may get sent packing.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Todd Archer
3 months agoDallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that running back Ezekiel Elliott has had a "tremendous offseason." Quarterback Dak Prescott said he expects Elliott to have his best season in 2022. "I think the biggest thing with Zeke is he's completely healthy now and he's had a tremendous offseason," McCarthy said. The three-time Pro Bowler had a career-low 237 carries for 1,002 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, while adding 47 receptions for 287 yards and two more TDs through the air in 17 regular season games. The 26-year-old had his workload managed in the second half of the season while dealing with nagging injuries, and backup Tony Pollard looked more explosive a lot of the time. Elliott has reached 1,000 yards rushing in four of his six NFL seasons, but even if he's healthy, Pollard figures to continue cutting into his workload, making him an RB2 now instead of a clear RB1.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Mark Lane
4 months agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who suffered a partially torn PCL in his knee just four weeks into last season, played through the pain through the rest of the year and the playoffs. As a result, he put up numbers that weren't up to his usual standard, and he's motivated to prove he has more in the tank in 2022. Elliott finished with the seventh-most rushing yards in the league and was tied for seventh in the NFL in rushing touchdowns. The standards are high for the former first-rounder who has rushed for over 900 yards in all six of his seasons and over 1,300 yards in three of them. After months of rehab, Elliott looks fully healed, and head coach Mike McCarthy claims that Elliott clocked 22 mph in a recent practice. Still, we could see more of a shared workload between Elliott and Tony Pollard in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com - Coral Smith
4 months agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott hasn't been as dominant over the last few seasons. After running for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns during his rookie campaign, the former Buckeye has battled injuries over the years. Elliott's production has also sizzled to some degree. However, the 33-year-old recently received a welcome endorsement from teammate Dak Prescott, who believes the back will have the best year of his career in 2022, primarily now that he's healthy. Elliott finished last season by narrowly rushing for over 1,000 yards while racking up 12 total touchdowns. The veteran is no longer considered a must-have fantasy target for managers, but he has all the potential in the world. Nonetheless, as long as Elliott remains free of ailments this season, he could quickly regain his status as an elite fantasy presence, especially in PPR formats.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Charean Williams
7 months agoDallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones gave a ringing endorsement for running back Ezekiel Elliott on Monday. "I want Zeke on my team," Jones said. "He's a damn good running back, and I think he's going to help us win this year. Obviously, his contract, his money is guaranteed. He's going to be here, no question." The seventh-year running back's $12.5 million salary in 2022 is fully guaranteed, so cutting him would create over $30 million in dead money. The 26-year-old played through a knee injury last year that really slowed him down, but even when he was healthy, backup Tony Pollard looked just as good, if not better. Elliott surpassed 1,000 yards rushing for the fourth time in six seasons, but he limped to the finish line and could share more backfield duties with Pollard in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: USA TODAY - Jori Epstein
8 months agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is expected to return to the team next season. Elliott dealt with a PCL knee injury during the 2021 season, but the Cowboys thought he played really well when he was healthy. The 26-year-old just surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth time in six NFL seasons. The good news is that he's not expected to need surgery on his knee heading into the 2022 campaign, but the biggest road block for his fantasy ceiling will be Tony Pollard, who looked much better than Elliott various times throughout the season. In total, Elliott scored 10 rushing touchdowns on 237 rushing attempts over 17 regular season games, while adding 47 receptions for 287 yards and two more scores on 65 targets.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
8 months agoDallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott (knee) said that he partially tore his PCL this year. Elliott said he won't need offseason surgery on his knee, but it's something that he had to work through during the year. "It's my job," Elliott said. The 26-year-old will be able to rest up after the Cowboys were eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card game on Sunday. Zeke went over 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth time in his six seasons this year, but backup Tony Pollard was more efficient and more explosive most of the time. Give him credit for not missing a single game, but Elliott certainly looked compromised at times this season. He could be more productive if he's in better health in 2022, but Pollard will be back and will continue to pose a threat to Elliott's fantasy upside.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: DallasCowboys.com - David Helman
