34 mins agoThe Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Livan Soto to Double-A Rocket City in a corresponding move. Rendon has been out since May 15 due to a left-groin strain, but he's now back with the Halos and should be back at third base on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Hayden Wesneski. The 33-year-old didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment, so he could be a little slow to get going again offensively. Although he had just one home run in 103 at-bats before his injury, Rendon had been playing better so far in 2023, hitting .301 (31-for-103) with four doubles, 20 RBI and two stolen bases. Fantasy managers should get him back into their lineups.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Rhett Bollinger

45 mins agoThe San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Joc Pederson (hand) and infielder Thairo Estrada (wrist) from the injured list on Tuesday, and both players are starting against right-hander Dinelson Lamet and the Colorado Rockies. Pederson is serving as the designated hitter and batting third, while Estrada is at the keystone and hitting in the two-hole. In corresponding moves, infielder Brett Wisely and outfielder Bryce Johnson were optioned to the minors. Pederson is returning for the first time since landing on the IL on May 15, and he's likely to continue playing only against right-handers. The 31-year-old is hitting .235 with five homers and 18 RBI this year. Estrada, meanwhile, will return to his starting role at the keystone. The 27-year-old has been great with a .301 average, six home runs, 17 RBI, 30 runs and 13 stolen bases in 193 at-bats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: KNBR - Danny Emerman

1 hour agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Andres Munoz (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since early April due to a right shoulder strain. He only pitched in three contests before going down, but is healthy now and available for Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. Munoz should immediately resume his role as a high-leverage option out of the bullpen. His return should take some of the pressure off Paul Sewald. Munoz will probably see save chances, but probably won't be the primary closer in Seattle.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Mariners PR

1 hour agoMilwaukee Brewers infielder Owen Miller is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for Miller, which will likely be happening more frequently now. The Brewers have Luis Urias back in the fold and Willy Adames returning soon. That means, Miller is likely going to see his playing time decrease. He's slashing .317/.355/.469 with four homers, 17 RBI this season, so he's done enough to earn himself a spot on the roster. It'll be interesting to see how the Brewers decide to shake out their infield once everyone is healthy. Urias will cover second base, while Abraham Toro draws the start at third base versus righty Kyle Gibson on Tuesday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 hour agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (ribs) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. This doesn't come as a huge shock after Buxton missed the last three games due to a left rib contusion. The organization tried to avoid using the injured list, but ultimately Buxton needs time to rest and recover. In a corresponding move, outfielder Trevor Larnach has been activated from the injured list. He'll cover left field and bat fifth versus right-hander Zach Eflin on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should expect Larnach to be more involved with Buxton sidelined.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Minnesota Twins
Share:
2 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (groin) is being held out of the starting lineup for the second straight game on Tuesday. The 29-year-old will miss Tuesday's contest versus the Washington Nationals due to tightness in his groin. He's expected to be available off the bench, which means this is probably a minor injury. Fantasy managers can be hopeful that Gurriel is back for Wednesday's contest. He's slashing .310/.359/.550 with nine homers, 35 RBI this season, so fantasy managers should be patient.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Theo Mackie
Share:
2 hours agoBaltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The rookie infielder was removed from Saturday's contest due to lower back discomfort. He sat out on Sunday and it appears he's still dealing with the issue. Henderson did mention he is feeling better and should be in the lineup on Wednesday. In the meantime, Ramon Urias will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Freddy Peralta.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Roch Kubatko
Share:
2 hours agoToronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (toe) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. He is being held out after having an infected ingrown toenail removed. Manager John Schneider said this should be a one-game absence, so fantasy managers should expect Chapman back on Wednesday. In the meantime, Santiago Espinal will play third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Hunter Brown on Tuesday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Shi Davidi
Share:
2 hours agoNew York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The rookie backup appears to be getting a routine rest day here. He's slashing .237/.291/.492 with eight home runs and 19 RBI in 34 games this season. Omar Narvaez will cover behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Bryce Elder on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should expect Alvarez back in the lineup after this contest.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 hours agoThe Boston Red Sox recalled left-handed pitching prospect Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and optioned pitcher Kaleb Ort to the minors in a corresponding move. Murphy, who is listed by MLB Pipeline as the team's No. 14 prospect, will initially work out of Boston's bullpen, which won't make him attractive to fantasy managers in redraft leagues. The 25-year-old southpaw could eventually make a spot start, but he currently has a rough 7.71 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, 25 walks and 42 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings over 10 appearances (nine starts) for Worcester. Murphy has the upside of a back-end starter in the big leagues, and he relies mostly on a four-seam fastball and changeup to get hitters out.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Ian Browne

3 hours agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery to fix a tear in his right UCL. The Rangers shifted deGrom to the 60-day injured list on Monday, and now we know why. The oft-injured 34-year-old right-hander will now miss the rest of the 2023 season and most likely most, if not all, of the 2024 campaign. After landing deGrom as a big free-agent prize in the offseason, the Rangers will only end up getting six starts out of him in 2023. He'll finish the year with a 2-0 record, 2.67 ERA (1.57 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, fur walks and 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. The four-time All-Star and two-time National League Cy Young winner can now be safely dropped in single-year fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Dallas Morning News - Evan Grant

3 hours agoAtlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed on Tuesday that rookie right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver will start on either Friday or Saturday against the Washington Nationals. The 20-year-old prospect, ranked the team's No. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline, made his big-league debut with 2 1/3 innings of shutout and hitless baseball in relief against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Smith-Shawver was extremely impressive at Triple-A Gwinnett, posting a 1.09 ERA, 45 strikeouts and 12 walks over seven starts (33 innings) to earn the call-up to the majors in the first place. He will slide into Michael Soroka's rotation spot for the time being and is definitely worth a look at least as a streamer in deeper leagues this weekend at home against the Nats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Jeff Schultz

3 hours agoNew York Yankees rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez is in the team's clubhouse on Tuesday and has a good chance to start on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox in place of injured left-hander Nestor Cortes (shoulder), who is expected to land on the injured list. In his major-league debut against the San Diego Padres on May 26, Vasquez was hit with a loss when he allowed two runs on four hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out six in 4 2/3 innings of work. The club's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 1-6 with a 5.13 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 26 walks and 55 strikeouts in 10 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2023. The matchup will be a better one for Vasquez in his second MLB start, and his strikeout upside could make him worth streaming consideration in deeper leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NJ Advance Media - Max Goodman

3 hours agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (illness) has returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday, starting in right field and hitting leadoff against the Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Tony Gonsolin. Fraley missed Monday's game due to allergies, but he'll be back in there a day later in the top spot in the lineup. With infield prospect Elly De La Cruz hitting cleanup in his major-league debut, Fraley will jump up to leadoff, giving him some more DFS appeal. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter is batting .257 (43-for-167) on the season with eight doubles, seven home runs, 37 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 53 games. So far in the month of June through four games, he's gone 5-for-14 (.357) with two home runs, two RBI and four stolen bases.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press

3 hours agoCincinnati Reds infield prospect Elly De La Cruz is starting at third base and is hitting cleanup in his major-league debut on Tuesday against right-hander Tony Gonsolin and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. The No. 4 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, needs to be added immediately in all fantasy leagues if he's still available on your league's waiver wire. The 21-year-old infielder comes to the big leagues with high expectations after posting a 1.031 OPS, 12 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 38 games for Triple-A Louisville, and he's expected to play every day for the Reds moving forward. De La Cruz is a switch-hitter that should immediately become one of the most dynamic young players in the big leagues. He has five-tool potential and immense fantasy upside.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press
