Yordan Alvarez "Unlikely" To Play Outfield In 2021
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters that it's "very unlikely" designated hitter Yordan Alvarez will play in the outfield this season. After a phenomenal rookie season in 2019, Alvarez' season last year was ravaged by knee ailments. He would undergo surgery on his right knee to repair a slight patellar tendon and also had a procedure done on his left knee. All of this has Baker monitoring the progress of Alvarez very closely throughout camp. When healthy, the 23-year-old can be an elite offensive weapon, as evidenced by his 1.067 OPS in 87 games as a rookie in 2019. But the talented hitter could be relegated to designated hitter only this season.
