The New York Yankees claimed right-hander Allan Winans off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, according to sources. The Braves designated Winans for assignment last week, and now he'll head to the American League East for the 2025 season. The 29-year-old former 17th-round pick by the New York Mets in 2018 out of Campbell University debuted in the big leagues with the Braves in 2023 and made six starts that year. He was hit around in his two starts in the majors in 2024 with Atlanta, allowing 14 runs (13 earned) on 14 hits (three homers) while walking four and striking out four in 7 2/3 innings. Because he still has minor-league options remaining, Winans will almost certainly start the 2025 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he'll serve as organizational starting pitching depth for the Yanks.--Keith Hernandez
