Yadier Molina Expected To Re-Sign With Cardinals
4 years agoFree-agent catcher Yadier Molina is expected to re-sign with the St. Louis Cardinals after the Caribbean Series, if not before then, according to a source. The veteran backstop is playing for Puerto Rico's Criollos de Caguas. The Cardinals have reportedly already made Molina a one-year offer. The Red Birds also re-signed long-time Cardinal Adam Wainwright for one year on Thursday night. The 38-year-old Molina is a future Hall of Famer and still can hack it behind the plate defensively, but he's seen a noticeable decline at the plate in recent seasons and will only be worth considering in two-catcher and deep NL-only formats. The nine-time All-Star hit .262/.303/.359 with four homers and 16 RBI in 42 games last year and .270/.312/.399 with a .711 OPS and 10 homers and 57 RBI in his last full season in 2019.
