Triston McKenzie 2024 Player Outlook: Will Try To Rebound Following Lost Season
11 months agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Triston McKenzie had a nice 2.96 ERA and 3.59 FIP in 2022. He pitched to a 0.95 WHIP as well. 2023 was different for the right-hander, however. McKenzie appeared in four games and 16 innings pitched because of injury woes. The 26-year-old had four advanced stats where he finished in the top 31% of pitchers in 2022. His expected batting average was better than 69% of the field, his chase percentage was better than 75%, and his walk rate and extension were better than 81% and 86%, respectively. McKenzie has a well above-average strikeout rate but gives up hard contact. He's going to need to miss the middle of the bat more to take the next step, especially since he throws a 92 mph fastball. Though it looks faster because of his extension, he still has trouble keeping the ball on the ground. With an ADP of 197.5 in the middle of January, you could receive great value for him there. Don't overpay too much, as he still has some to prove, but 2024 could be another solid year for McKenzie.
