Travis Hunter 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook: Could Move to DB Full Time, Competition at Wide Receiver Could Leave the Two-Way Star in Irrelevant "Gadget Guy" Role
The Jacksonville Jaguars made an aggressive move in 2025, giving up multiple first-round picks to be in position to select Travis Hunter (knee), who won the Heisman Trophy at wide receiver and cornerback with Colorado in 2024, with last year's No. 2 overall pick. At that time, Hunter's ability to contribute in fantasy football was a bit of a question mark because of his defensive responsibilities, and optimistic managers were not rewarded. Hunter ended up catching just 28 passes (on 45 targets) for 298 yards and just one touchdown over seven games. After his best effort in London against the Rams (101 yards and a score) in Week 7, he injured his right knee in practice - an injury that ultimately cost him the rest of his rookie campaign. The 23-year-old should be a "full go" for training camp. Jacksonville acquired Jakobi Meyers from the Raiders to aid Brian Thomas Jr. for the playoff-bound squad, and Parker Washington broke out with 26 catches for 454 yards and three touchdowns over the team's final four contests (including playoffs). That leaves Hunter as a non-essential member of Jacksonville's receiving group. This doesn't help his case for a larger role on offense, as his health and adaptation to the pro level are both top priorities for the team. In limited spurts, the former collegiate superstar showed off the talent that made him a top-five pick. He's an intriguing buy in dynasty formats at a cost that is tanking due to offseason rumors that he'll be primarily a cornerback in 2026 after the team let DB Greg Newsome walk in free agency. However, in redraft formats, Hunter's 193rd-overall slot in RotoBaller's PPR rankings suggests he's a bit of an afterthought. A handful of designed touches to showcase his talent might still be on the menu. Still, Hunter would need to be a cluster injury away from Jacksonville's wide receiving corps this season to be a featured member of their passing attack.
