Travis Etienne 2021 Fantasy Outlook: What Might Have Been
3 years agoComing into the preseason, the common sentiment was Travis Etienne would be the man to replace James Robinson in the Jacksonville Jaguars back field. He was taken in the first round. He was being paired with college teammate Trevor Lawrence. And most importantly, he had the all-around skill set to do so. Now it is all for naught. Not only will Etienne not replace Robinson this season, but he will also not even be on the field. Due to the dreaded Lisfranc injury, Etienne has been placed on injured reserve by Jacksonville. Since this move was made before the official start of the 53-man roster formatting, it also means he will be ineligible to return at any time before next season. This is a sad conclusion to a difficult situation for all involved. Etienne is still a solid dynasty league asset. Although no longer a top two selection, he is still a good selection late in the first-round or early in the second round. Of course, if you are a contender and do not need him this season, go ahead and take him higher and sit on him. The player this really helps is James Robinson for sure. Once almost an afterthought, he now moves firmly back into contention for a top 20 fantasy spot at running back. He will have the back field mostly to himself. With a few snaps also taken by Carlos Hyde, which shouldn't impact Robinson very much.
