New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz has struggled to start the season, and it’s possible those struggles have something to do with back stiffness he’s been suffering from. To try and help alleviate it, the Mets are pushing Matz’s scheduled Tuesday start against the Atlanta Braves to Saturday against the Colorado Rockies instead. He’ll be available out of the bullpen on Tuesday just in case. While it’s great he’s getting some extra rest, this feels like the same old, tired story for Matz. One of the more talented pitchers to emerge from the Mets’ farm system in years, injuries and inconsistency has plagued his career so far, and there’s only so many minor injuries that can be blamed before fantasy owners have had enough. The potential with Matz remains, but his 4.98 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 4.15 BB/9 isn’t helping anyone. He can be left on the wire in most leagues until he proves he can actually be of use.--John Smith
