Stefon Diggs 2018 Outlook: It's Time To Shine
6 years agoStefon Diggs has really shown everything you want from a young wide receiver, outside of the actual production. It looked like Diggs was heading for a career year in 2017 after catching 84 passes for 903 yards in 2016. While he did take a step back in those areas last season, he was able to secure career high eight touchdowns. So, is 2018 the season he puts it all together?
The Antonio Brown comparisons continue to flow in for Diggs, but if he’s going to make good on those comparisons, he needs to finally have that breakout season. The Vikings offense is going to be flush with options and Diggs could be the top player. New quarterback Kirk Cousins will need to prioritize Diggs as his top target, something he has not done previously with other wide receivers.
Diggs will also need to kick the injury bug he has had for three seasons in which he has missed 10 games. If he can stay on the field for 16 games, he could finally have the 1,000-yard season that has eluded him so far. Double digit touchdowns may be a little harder to come by though with Kyle Rudolph, Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray likely to see a lot of work in the Red Zone. At best, we should a mid to low WR2 season from Diggs in 2018 as this offense finds a new identity.
