Shane McClanahan 2023 Player Outlook: One of the Game's Best
2 years agoNo pitcher made more headlines in 2022 than McClanahan, who proved that he had become one of the game's premier starting pitchers over the offseason. He posted a sparkling 2.54 ERA and an elite 0.93 WHIP while going for a 30.3% K% and a beautiful 5.9% BB%. The lefty posted absurd swinging-strike rates on three of his four pitches (4-seamer, changeup, slider) and undoubtedly has a top-five pitch arsenal in the game. A late summer injury cost him a few starts, and his performance was shaky after (he gave up 11 of his 47 earned runs in his final three starts). That occurrence may function to keep his price at a manageable spot for 2023, but he will no doubt be a top-ten SP. His talent is not in question, but his health and workload prospects might be. You likely won't have to take McClanahan in the top 20 picks, making him a pretty strong ace option if you start your draft with two hitters, which may be advisable in 2023.
