Scooter Gennett Nearing Rehab Assignment
6 years agoCincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett (groin) will report to the team's spring training complex and participate in a minicamp with minor leaguers on Tuesday in Arizona. He might only be there for three days before beginning a minor league rehab assignment. Gennett was running around the bases earlier this week in St. Louis with the team and worked on sliding for the first time on Friday. He is encouraged by his progress and is a couple weeks away from making his season debut for the Reds. The 29-year-old has 50 home runs for Cincinnati in the last two seasons, so he can give fantasy owners a real boost at second base when he returns. His return will push Derek Dietrich into more of a utility role, while Jose Peraza figures to lose even more playing time.
