Ryan O'Hearn, Ryan McBroom Competing For First Base Job
5 years agoKansas City Royals first basemen Ryan O'Hearn and Ryan McBroom will be competing for the starting first base job in spring training. McBroom, 27, hit .293 with five doubles in September in 2019 and slugged 26 homers for the Yankees Triple-A affiliate before coming to the Royals. O'Hearn, who hits from the left side, hit .195/.281/.369 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI in 105 games last year. Most likely, McBroom and O'Hearn will form a platoon at the position, with O'Hearn facing right-handed pitchers. There is pop in both bats, but O'Hearn strikes out way too much to provide much more than some power numbers in AL-only leagues.
