Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said on Tuesday that the team is open to using a closer committee during the 2025 season. When asked if anyone besides lefty Aroldis Chapman and righty Liam Hendriks are closer candidates, manager Alex Cora mentioned right-hander Garrett Whitlock (elbow). The Red Sox had 20 different pitchers record saves under Cora in a four-year span from 2019-22, but Cora also said he believes in having a set closer instead of mixing and matching late in games. The most experienced candidates are Chapman, who ranks third with 335 career saves, and Hendriks, who ranks ninth among active pitchers with 116. In addition to Whitlock, lefty Justin Wilson and Justin Slaten could be options for saves in 2025. Chapman should be the favorite to earn most of Boston's save chances, if healthy, but talk of a committee approach isn't going to help his fantasy value.--Keith Hernandez
