Red Sox Agree With Eduardo Rodriguez
4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox agreed to an $8.3 million deal with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez for the 2021 season on Tuesday, according to a source. Rodriguez would've been in the fourth and final year of arbitration eligibility before becoming a free agent next offseason. The 27-year-old southpaw was set to be the team's Opening Day starter in 2020 but didn't pitch at all after testing positive for COVID-19 and then being diagnosed with myocarditis, an inflammatory heart condition. But Rodriguez said he expects to be ready for the 2021 season after not being allowed to do physical exercise throughout the summer. E-Rod went 19-6 with a 3.81 ERA and 213 strikeouts in 203 1/3 innings in 2019, but fantasy managers will likely be much more cautious with him after he took the year off in 2020.
