Rays In The Marcell Ozuna Derby
4 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays are interested in free-agent outfielder Marcell Ozuna, although it's likely a long shot that he lands in Tampa. The right-handed slugger nearly won the Triple Crown in the shortened 2020 season, but the lack of a universal designated hitter could be negatively impacting his market this offseason. Ozuna can play left field, but his defensive metrics aren't all that strong, so he'd make a better fit in the American League, at least as a part-time DH. Ozuna has also been linked to the Braves, Mets and Blue Jays, and some teams are comfortable using him in the outfield as their everyday left fielder. The 30-year-old could come off the board soon after Nelson Cruz returned to the Twins on Tuesday night. Ozuna hit .338/.431/.636 with an NL-leading 18 home runs and 56 RBI in 267 plate appearances last year. While those numbers cannot be sustained over a full season, Ozuna remains a top-50 overall fantasy asset. Just don't pay top dollar expecting a repeat of 2020.
