Ravens Defense Keeping Jimmy Smith For Another Year
4 years agoThe Baltimore Ravens and veteran cornerback Jimmy Smith agreed to a one-year contract extension on Thursday worth up to $5 million, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. He'll receive a $500,000 signing bonus, $2 million in base salary and $2.5 million in playing-time incentives, which he's considered unlikely to earn, making the deal salary cap-friendly. Smith was set to become a free agent after this season. The 32-year-old defensive back has played in 11 games this year due to various injuries, racking up 27 combined tackles and a fumble recovery in his five starts. Smith has never been a lockdown cornerback in the league, but he's a great leader and will continue to be a key piece of a strong Ravens Defense for another season in 2021. Against the division-rival Bengals and backup quarterback Brandon Allen to close out the regular season this Sunday, Baltimore's defense should be considered a top-three fantasy unit.
