Rangers Reach Two-Year Deal With Kohei Arihara
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers signed Japanese right-hander Kohei Arihara to a two-year deal on Saturday worth $6-7 million, according to sources. The 28-year-old had a 3.74 ERA in six seasons with the Nippon Ham Fighters and went 8-9 with 106 strikeouts and a 3.46 ERA in 132 2/3 innings in 20 outings for the team in 2020. Arihara was even better in 2019, posting a 2.46 ERA in 24 games, including 161 strikeouts in 164 1/3 innings pitched. The Rangers designated right-hander Art Warren for assignment to make room for Arihara on the roster. The Red Sox and Padres were two of the other finalists to land Arihara. He should be ticketed for Texas' rotation to begin the 2021 season, but fantasy managers will likely want to see how he fares before committing to him in shallower leagues.
