Phillies Interested In Andrelton Simmons
4 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are interested in free-agent shortstop Andrelton Simmons. The Cincinnati Red and Toronto Blue Jays are among other teams involved. Simmons is one of the best defensive shortstops around, but he played in just 133 of a possible 222 games for the Angels in the last two years and hit just .271/.318/.362 (82 OPS+) with seven home runs in that span. The Phils will need to add another shortstop if they are unable to re-sign Didi Gregorius. Simmons has some moderate power and speed at the 6 and would be moving to a nice hitting environment in Philadelphia, but injuries and inconsistency with the lumber leave him as more of middle infield depth in deep mixed and AL- or NL-only leagues.
