49ers Release Tyron Johnson
4 weeks agoThe San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Tyron Johnson on Thursday. Johnson finds himself back on the free-agent market after signing with the Niners back in January. He spent time with the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, catching his only target for an eight-yard gain with the Texans. The 27-year-old pass-catcher played in four total games (one start). Johnson has played three seasons in the NFL after going undrafted. In 26 career games (one start), he has racked up 23 receptions on 32 targets for 422 yards and three touchdowns with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Raiders and Texans.Source: 49ers Twitter
Jets Release Cedric Ogbuehi
4 weeks agoThe New York Jets released veteran offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi on Thursday. Ogbuehi signed on for a second season with the Jets earlier this offseason, but he finds himself back on the open market already after the team signed Billy Turner and drafted Carter Warren to beef up their offensive line. The 31-year-old played in only seven games (five starts) for the Jets in 2022. He was originally a first-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 out of Texas A&M and spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bengals before jumping around with the Jaguars, Seahawks, Ravens and Jets. Ogbuehi has played in 67 games (35 starts) in his eight NFL seasons.Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Shorter was taken by Buffalo with the 150th pick of the draft in the fifth round. He stands at 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds and played three years at the University of Florida and two years at Penn State. In his three years with the Gators, he caught 95 passes for 1,395 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 14.7 yards per catch. Trey Lance Looking Good During Offseason Workouts
4 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (finger) suffered a hairline fracture of his right index finger in the 2021 preseason, and it proved to be a major setback that severely limited his throwing ability for more than a year, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The head coach said Lance's lower body is fine and he's been throwing the ball very well at the start of the offseason program because his finger is no longer an issue, either. "He was able to get such a better base in these last two months that I think Trey is the best that we've (seen) him right now," Shanahan said. Still, if he's healthy by the start of the regular season, Brock Purdy (elbow) is going to be the team's starter at QB. Lance, the third overall pick in 2021, could need a trade out of San Fran to regain fantasy appeal in single-year and dynasty/keeper leagues.Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco
Panthers Re-Sign Michael Jordan
4 weeks agoThe Carolina Panthers re-signed offensive guard Michael Jordan to an undisclosed deal on Thursday. Jordan will now enter his third season for the Panthers after playing in 28 games (10 starts) for the team over the last two seasons. The 25-year-old offensive lineman played in all 17 games in 2022. He was originally a fourth-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019 out of Ohio State. Jordan spent the first two years of his NFL career with the Bengals before joining Carolina. In his four-year career, Jordan has played in 55 games (29 starts) and will continue to give the Panthers offensive-line depth in 2023.Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates
Cowboys Sign Mazi Smith To Rookie Deal
4 weeks agoThe Dallas Cowboys signed first-round defensive tackle Mazi Smith to his four-year rookie deal on Thursday. The contract comes with a fifth-year option. In addition to Smith, the Cowboys signed all of the rookie draft picks, including Luke Schoonmaker, DeMarvion Overshown, Junior Fehoko, Asim Richards, Eric Scott Jr., Deuce Vaughn and Jalen Brooks. Dallas opens their rookie minicamp on Friday. Smith brings plenty of power to the middle of the Cowboys' defensive line at 6-foot-3, 323 pounds, and he should immediately make the Dallas D better at stopping the run. The 21-year-old is still very raw, though, so he'll need to be coached up at the next level to reach his true ceiling as a hog molly on the interior of the defense.Source: ESPN Dallas - Todd Archer
Cardinals Sign Paris Johnson Jr. To Rookie Deal
4 weeks agoThe Arizona Cardinals signed first-round offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. to his four-year rookie deal on Thursday. The contract includes a fifth-year option. In addition to Johnson, Arizona agreed to rookie deals with wide receiver Michael Wilson (third round), offensive lineman Jon Gaines II (fourth round), quarterback Clayton Tune (fifth round) and linebacker Owen Pappoe (fifth round). Johnson was the sixth overall pick in this year's draft and was a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2022 after making 13 starts at left tackle. The 21-year-old should be a solid starting left tackle for the Cardinals in time, thanks to his freakish athleticism and great range.Source: Pro Football Talk - Charean Williams
Chargers Agree With Quentin Johnston On Rookie Deal
4 weeks agoThe Los Angeles Chargers agreed to terms with first-round wide receiver Quentin Johnston on his four-year rookie deal on Thursday. As with all first-round rookies, Johnston will receive a fifth-year option. The 21-year-old was the 21st overall pick of this year's NFL draft. He should have a role in his first NFL season opposite Mike Williams, but he'll also be battling for offensive snaps with Joshua Palmer. Keenan Allen will stay on the inside in the slot. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much from the big-bodied, big-play deep threat in 2023, though, unless Williams and Allen missed considerable time again with injuries. Johnston will need to answer questions about his route-running and athleticism.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
Seahawks Sign Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Rookie Deal
4 weeks agoThe Seattle Seahawks signed first-round wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to his four-year rookie deal on Thursday. The contract includes a standard fifth-year option. Smith-Njigba was the 20th overall selection in this year's NFL draft, and he started a little receiver run late in the first round. He'll be third on the pass-catching totem pole behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Seattle, but his presence gives rising quarterback Geno Smith yet another weapon through the air. The 21-year-old pass-catcher should make an immediate impact in his rookie year and has been the most popular rookie receiver so far in fantasy drafts, but managers also will need to temper their expectations in Year 1 as long as both Metcalf and Lockett remain healthy.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
Bijan Robinson Agrees To Rookie Deal
4 weeks agoThe Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with first-round running back Bijan Robinson on a four-year rookie deal on Thursday. The eighth overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft will receive $21.96 million, which is fully guaranteed and includes a fifth-year option. Seventh-round safety DeMarcco Hellams also agreed to a four-year deal. Robinson was considered the best draft prospect this year, regardless of position. The 21-year-old should become a three-down workhorse back for the Falcons sooner than later, even with sophomore Tyler Allgeier still on the roster. In a run-first offense, it means that Robinson immediately becomes an expensive RB1 in fantasy.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Mario Edwards Joins Seahawks
4 weeks agoThe Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Mario Edwards to a one-year deal. The 29-year-old visited with the Seahawks in March, but didn't decide to sign until now. He has bounced around the league quite a bit since being drafted in the second round by the Raiders in 2015. Last season, Edwards recorded three sacks and a career-high 11 quarterback hits in 13 games (seven starts) with the Tennessee Titans. The expectation is that Edwards is going to be a rotational piece on the Seahawks d-line.Source: Jeremy Fowler
Trey Lance Changes Throwing Grip
4 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (finger) was forced to change his throwing grip last season. The young signal-caller suffered a hairline finger fracture that never healed properly. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Lance suffered the injury during the 2021 preseason and had to change everything he did with the football. The former No. 3 overall pick has experienced some bad luck early in his career. Despite that, he'll likely begin the season as the starter with Brock Purdy (elbow) still recovering. It's uncertain what the 49ers are going to do once Purdy and Lance are both healthy. Honestly, trading Lance seems like the best solution, but it remains to be seen what the 49ers decide to do.Source: NBC Sports
Seahawks Think Kenny McIntosh Is Special
4 weeks agoThe Seattle Seahawks took rookie running back Kenny McIntosh in the seventh round of this year's NFL draft, but head coach Pete Carroll thinks McIntosh "easily" could have been taken in the third round. Carroll called the running back room "really together" and also said that Kenneth Walker III has had a "fantastic" offseason and is ready to be more versatile in 2023. Walker is expected to lead Seattle's backfield this year, but McIntosh and fellow rookie Zach Charbonnet are worth watching in what could become a frustrating timeshare that also involved DeeJay Dallas. The 23-year-old McIntosh led Georgia in rushing yards (829) and receptions (43) in 2022. He could carve out a role on third downs, but he'll mostly be a flier in dynasty/keeper leagues in his rookie season.Source: Seattle Sports 710 - Brandon Gustafson
Chiefs Cuts Byron Cowart
4 weeks agoThe Kansas City Chiefs cut defensive tackle Byron Cowart on Wednesday. Cowart agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with the Chiefs in March, but he won't even make it to training camp with the team before going back on the open market. Cowart was originally a fifth-round selection in 2019 by the New England Patriots out of Maryland. He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Patriots before playing in 17 games (zero starts) for the Indianapolis Colts last year. The 26-year-old finished 2022 with only 12 tackles (four solo) with the Colts. Cowart will now look to latch on with another organization for the 2023 campaign.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
