Packers Alter Preston Smith's Contract
4 years agoThe Green Bay Packers altered outside linebacker Preston Smith's contract on Friday to lower his salary cap number for the 2021 season, according to a source. Smith will have an $8 million salary with a $200,000 workout bonus, a $300,000 46-man roster bonus, a $6.5 million signing bonus and a $1 million base salary. He'll have $4.4 million available in sack incentives, so he can eclipse the $12 million he was set to make before the restructuring of the deal. Smith will make an extra $500,000 for six sacks, $750,000 for eight sacks, $750,000 more for 10 sacks and $1.2 million for 12 sacks. The 28-year-old had 42 combined tackles (seven for loss), three passes defensed, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and four sacks in his second season in Green Bay a year after recording a career-high 12 sacks in 2019.
