Orioles Sign Alcides Escobar
6 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent shortstop Alcides Escobar to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Saturday. The 32-year-old former All-Star and Gold Glove winner will give the team experience and middle infield depth for 2019. He hit just .231/.279/.313 with 29 extra-base hits and 34 RBI in 140 games for the Royals last year. Perhaps his biggest asset is his durability, as Escobar has played in all 162 games in three of the last five seasons. Even if Escobar wins the shortstop job out of camp, he'll have limited upside in AL-only leagues.
