The New York Mets will take a look at infielder Nick Madrigal at shortstop, among other positions, in spring training, according to the New York Post's Mike Puma. Madrigal has never played shortstop in the big leagues, but the Mets don't have a real backup option to Francisco Lindor at the position to start the year besides prospect Luisangel Acuna. The 27-year-old Madrigal was the fourth overall pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2018 out of Oregon State, but he hasn't lived up to his draft stock at all and has a career .274/.323/.344 slash line with a .667 OPS, four home runs, 77 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 96 runs scored in five seasons with the White Sox and Chicago Cubs. Injuries have been a big culprit, as Madrigal has yet to play 100 games in a season. He has good speed and makes a lot of contact, but his lack of power hurts his fantasy appeal. At this point, he's nothing more than a bench player.--Keith Hernandez
