Nationals Unlikely To Land Kris Bryant, DJ LeMahieu
4 years agoThe Washington Nationals have been connected to names like Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant and free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, but they remain unlikely to land a big-ticket item this offseason. Washington is more likely to pursue less-expensive players because they have so many holes to fill on their roster. Juan Soto and Trea Turner combined for 5.1 Wins Above Replacement in 2020, but the rest of their position players produced a negative-1.9 fWAR. The Nats need to replace right fielder Adam Eaton, first baseman Eric Thames, catcher Kurt Suzuki and right-hander Anibal Sanchez and are still searching for a third baseman after losing Anthony Rendon to the Angels last offseason. Washington doesn't want to give up their top two pitching prospects -- Jackson Rutledge and Cade Cavalli -- in any trade.
