Miles Boykin 2020 Outlook: Touchdown Or Bust
5 years agoBaltimore Ravens wide receiver Miles Boykin has all the tools to be dominant in the NFL. He tested in the 98th percentile or better in catch radius, burst (acceleration from a stopped position), and speed, and he was not far behind in agility (90th) and the 40-yard dash (4.42/89th). The problem is that there is not a significant role for him on offense since the Ravens are a run-first team with Lamar Jackson and four running backs at their disposal. In 2019, the 6’4” athletic phenom out of Notre Dame only had 13 receptions for 198 yards and three touchdowns, and 2020 does not look any more promising. When the Ravens run passing plays, tight end, Mark Andrews is the first read for Jackson, and sophomore Marquise Brown is the second. After that, it is a toss-up between Willie Snead IV, the running backs, and Boykin. Further, the receiver situation became even murkier this year with the additions of James Proche out of SMU and Devin Duvernay out of Texas in the NFL Draft. As a result, the only role available to the former Fighting Irishman is that of a touchdown specialist in the red zone, and his low target volume makes him virtually undraftable outside of the deepest dynasty leagues. He currently sits at WR128 in ADP and is best reserved as a dart throw in DFS if the matchup is right. Do not draft him in seasonal leagues.
