Although Michael McDowell has a reputation as a great NASCAR road racer, that was difficult to see in previous seasons because he seldom factored for the lead. That changed this year when he made all three passes for the lead at the Indianapolis and Watkins Glen road courses in back-to-back races and dominated the Indianapolis race start-to-finish. He ranks fifth in road course speed this year with a speed percentile of 78.38% and qualified 13th ahead of all but one other Ford. McDowell will almost certainly get a top ten. In many road course races where Tyler Reddick dominates in practice and qualifying (and this was one of them) he almost never loses. It's unlikely that McDowell will match Reddick's speed tomorrow, but he might be as fast as anyone else.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
