Max Scherzer Undergoes Back Surgery
12 months agoTexas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back on Thursday and will be out until at least the middle of the 2024 season. The right-hander missed significant time down the stretch of the regular season and postseason and has missed time with back issues in recent seasons. The right-hander was traded by the Mets to the Rangers in the 2023 season and worked to a 3.77 ERA in 27 starts between the two clubs, a down season by his lofty standard. The future Hall of Famer has one year remaining on his three-year, $130 million megadeal he signed with the Mets prior to the 2022 season. The Rangers signed right-hander Tyler Mahle on Thursday, a move that makes more sense given Friday's news.
