Matthew Boyd To Throw Off Mound This Weekend
3 years agoDetroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that left-hander Matthew Boyd (arm, neck) will throw off a mound for the first time this weekend. Boyd had previously been throwing on flat ground and doing long toss. He went on the injured list in mid-June with muscle discomfort in his left arm and has also dealt with neck issues this year, so Boyd may not be an option for the Tigers rotation or fantasy managers until possibly September. The 30-year-old southpaw had a respectable 3.44 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings over 13 starts before landing on the shelf, but his mediocre 18.8 percent strikeout rate made him more of a target in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Those in mixed leagues can continue to leave him to the waiver wire until he gets closer to a return.
