Matt Moore Signs With Phillies
4 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies signed free-agent starting pitcher Matt Moore to a major league deal on Friday, according to sources. MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports the deal is for one year and $3 million. The left-hander should compete for a spot in the team's starting rotation in 2021 after he went 6-3 with a 2.65 ERA while striking out 98 and walking 26 in 85 innings over 15 starts last season in Japan. Moore was a former top prospect with the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's posted a 4.51 career ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 894 2/3 career innings over 181 appearances (151 starts) for the Rays, Giants, Rangers and Tigers over nine big-league seasons. The 31-year-old was an All-Star back in 2013 with Tampa, but he hasn't shown much since that season. But he'll be one to watch in NL-only leagues if he wins a rotation spot for Philadelphia.
